WILDWOOD, MO. - September 02, 2002 - This Fall, 2002 saw the continuation of a joint project between CT&L and Chaminade College Preparatory School (website) which began four years ago. This innovative program employs wireless technology to facilitate learning in the hands of students, campuswide. The idea took shape in 1999, when the faculty and administration at CCP decided that learning could be enhanced through greater computer use in the classrooms. The result was laptops being provided to the teachers in 2000, followed by a pilot rollout to the incoming 6th grade in 2001. In all, CT&L will deliver 375 wireless LAN, IBM ThinkPad Laptops to the 6th, 7th and 8th grades at CCP for the commencement of the 2001 Winter Semester. Paid for by a small tuition increase, at the end of three years the students and their families will own the laptop.

Because CPP has invested in Wireless Access Points throughout the campus, students and teachers can not only utilize their laptops in the classrooms, but in the cafeteria, lounge, library and athletic facilities as well.

The program has been so successful that CCP plans to expand the scope to include all 975 students in 2003. "We've worked through the entire scope together, and I'd be happy to share our experiences with other schools looking to gain an edge in their pupils' education."
